This MTB cassette’s three largest sprockets are mounted on a lightweight alloy carrier to reduce weight and increase rigidity. Shimano has also equipped this version with Hyperglide sprockets that have a computer designed tooth configuration with contoured shift gates, resulting in a crisp smooth shift even under load. Its close ratio gearing also allows for a more effective use of energy through finer cadence control.
