Why We're Stepping Forward From Black Saint Piran Service Course

Why We're Stepping Forward From Black

How embracing change has shaped the next chapter of Saint Piran

There comes a point in every brand's journey where you have a choice to make.

Do you continue repeating what made you successful, or do you have the confidence to evolve?

For Saint Piran, that question centred around one colour.

Black.

For years our black jersey became one of the most recognisable kits in British cycling. It wasn't just something our riders wore—it became part of our identity. Whether it was spotted racing through Cornwall, climbing Alpine passes or lining up at local club events, it carried a reputation that had been built over years of racing, storytelling and community.

So why would we ever consider changing it?

The simple answer is because every brand reaches a moment where standing still becomes the bigger risk.

As people, we naturally become attached to what feels familiar. The same is true in business. When something works, the temptation is to protect it at all costs. There's comfort in familiarity, and there's safety in giving people exactly what they expect.

But memorable brands have rarely been built by choosing the safest option.

The brands we admire most don't abandon their identity—they evolve it. They recognise when the market changes, when their community changes and, perhaps most importantly, when they themselves have changed. They understand that growth doesn't come from forgetting who you are. It comes from having the confidence to ask what comes next.

Over the last year I've had the privilege of spending time with riders from across Cornwall, around the UK and throughout Europe. Whether representing Saint Piran at industry events, riding with local clubs or simply talking to customers in our stores, one thing became increasingly clear. Cycling today looks very different to the sport it was even a few years ago.

Riders are crossing disciplines more than ever before. Road cyclists are discovering gravel. Triathletes are joining chain gangs. Club riders are travelling further, riding longer and expecting more from the brands they choose to wear. At the same time, our summers are becoming warmer, our rides longer and our appetite for individuality stronger.

It made me realise that perhaps the biggest challenge wasn't designing another jersey.

It was deciding whether we had the courage to move beyond the one everyone already knew.

That's ultimately where The White Collection was born.

Interestingly, despite its name, it was never intended to be about a single colour. White simply became the blank canvas that allowed us to think differently. It represented a fresh start—a willingness to challenge ourselves creatively while remaining completely true to everything Saint Piran stands for.

That's why The White Collection isn't defined by one jersey.

It begins with OG White, a respectful nod to the original professional kit that helped shape our identity. It continues with Neon, bringing a bold, modern energy that celebrates riders who love to stand out. And now it welcomes Pink Fluro, proving that confidence in your identity gives you permission to be more expressive, not less.

Three completely different designs.

One shared philosophy.

None of them exist to replace the original black jersey. They exist because of it.

Without the confidence that black gave Saint Piran over the last decade, we may never have had the confidence to create something so different today.

That, for me, is what embracing change really means.

It isn't about abandoning your past. It's about respecting it enough to let it evolve.

Our values haven't changed. Our partnership with Bioracer hasn't changed. Our commitment to creating premium cycling apparel certainly hasn't changed. If anything, those foundations have become stronger. What has changed is our willingness to keep asking ourselves difficult questions and resisting the temptation to simply repeat yesterday's successes.

I hope people love The White Collection, but more than that I hope it starts conversations—not just about cycling kit, but about creativity, confidence and the importance of continuing to evolve.

Because whether you're building a cycling brand, running a business or simply finding your own path, I think the principle is the same.

The greatest risk isn't changing.

It's believing that because something has always worked, it always will.

The original black jersey will always be part of Saint Piran.

It always should be.

But every great story deserves another chapter.

I believe The White Collection is ours.
