Ride what works. Built in Redruth. Dialled in by Mike Jenner

THIS IS WHO'S TOUCHING YOUR BIKE.

Saint Piran has been Cornwallโ€™s independent cycle specialist since 1983. Weโ€™ve built thousands of bikes in this workshop. Weโ€™ve raced on the WorldTour, won UCI world titles, and taken Olympic medals. That heritage shows up in how we set up every bike that leaves here.

Then we did something unusual.

We brought Mike Jenner into the workshop. Mike has over a decade on the WorldTour โ€” Grand Tours, Classics, training camps, everything. Bikes ridden by people who race for a living. And we made him available to the public.

You can book him. For a setup. For a fit. For a second opinion on a bike you already own. For a problem nobody else in the South West can solve.

Itโ€™s the kind of access you donโ€™t get in most of Europe.

โ€œYou get it in Redruth.โ€

WHY MOST BIKES FAIL HERE.

Cornwall is unforgiving. Short, vertical climbs. Chip-seal roads that chew tyres. Nine months of the year it's wet. And the coastal wind will move you three feet sideways on a 60mm aero wheel.

Most bikes sold to Cornish riders were specced for somewhere else โ€” flat Fenland tarmac, dry Spanish training roads, the Surrey Hills. They weren't wrong. They just weren't for here.

Tested in Cornwall, for Cornwall. We only recommend what we ride. That's why our recommendations are narrow and specific. Our standards are high.

Here are the four bikes that actually work, and the setup notes that make them work.

FOUR BIKE TYPES. SIX EXPERT SELECTIONS.

We sell a lot of bikes. These are the ones we'd put our own money on, by category, for Cornwall.

GRAVEL - TREK CHECKPOINT

The one bike that does almost everything here. Carbon or alloy options, room for 45mm tyres, mounts for bikepacking. If you want to ride bridleways in the morning and club runs in the afternoon, this is the answer.

For: riders who refuse to own three bikes.

XC MTB - TREK PROCALIBER / SUPERCALIBER

For the moors, the granite, and the climbing that never stops. Procaliber gives you hardtail feel with IsoSpeed compliance. Supercaliber gives you 60mm of rear travel without the weight penalty โ€” for riders who want to race as well as ride.

For: Bodmin, Dartmoor, and the trails around Lanhydrock and Cardinham.

TRAIL - TREK FUEL EX / KONA PROCESS

When the descents get technical. Fuel EX is the do-it-all trail bike โ€” 140mm front, 130mm rear, confident on anything Cornwall throws at it. Kona Process is its playful, descent-focused sibling.

For: Cardinham, Mount Edgcumbe, Deerpark.

ROAD - TREK MADONE

The fast road bike, set up for Cornwall. A Madone is built for speed โ€” and with the right spec, it works here. With a proper endurance fit, itโ€™s a bike you can ride all day on Cornish roads.

For: Riders who want speed, set up by a world-class expert.

Mike Jenner signs off every Madone build we send out.
